Do you need at least a band 7 in IELTS?
-
Have you taken the exam more than once?
-
Do you seem to get roughly the same bands each time no matter how hard you work?
-
Do you worry about your Speaking and Writing?
If you answered 'Yes' to any of these questions then you are not alone.
Over the past month I have spoken to many people from all over the world who are studying for their IELTS exam and I am hearing these statements over and over again.
So, what is going on?
"I work so hard, I spend many hours studying for my IELTS and I keep getting Band 6.5"
The reason is that you are studying to consolidate your band score at 6 or 6.5. You are not doing anything wrong - you are simply becoming an expert at being a 6.5 candidate.
This is not a bad thing. Your expertise at 6.5 is a good base on which to build your English level.
You can go into the exam confident that you can achieve a 6.5.
But how would it feel to go into the exam with the same confidence that you could achieve a band 7 or 8?
-
There is a leap between 6.5 and 7. You need to take that leap.
-
There is only one way to take that leap - change the way you are doing things.
-
People who make that leap can get on with their English, their lives and their dreams - they can get the IELTS band score they want
Do you want to be one of those people?
YOU can be one of those people if you say yes to changing how you do things NOW.
I know this because I've helped other people to change their preparation and get their band score and then seen them move on to fulfilling their dreams for their work and their life.
I want you to do this too and I know that you can.
Some years ago when I was teaching large IELTS classes some of my students used to arrive for class in the morning with 6 essays they had done the night before. They had stayed up quite late preparing these essays.
Every time this happened I did the same thing - I took one essay and asked them to keep the rest.
This may seem mean to you after all the hard work.
But I did this for one reason, because I knew that all of those essays would contain exactly the same mistakes.
After I had marked the essay I asked them to check the mistakes and then see how many of these were in the other 5 essays they had written - time and time again the mistakes were identical
Doing more of the same does not guarantee success.
