Hi Everyone,
Here is this week's mini newsletter for the IELTS group.
Welcome!
Welcome to all the new members of this group and congratulations for being here! Everybody in the group is working towards IELTS and I am here to support you and give you the help and advice you need to achieve your IELTS goal.
Our group has now grown to 245!! This is fantastic and I am really excited about working with you all and helping you to get IELTS SUCCESS.
One of the benefits from this group is this weekly newsletter which gives you tips and ideas for things you can do here on Gapfillers and also any events or programmes that are being organised for IELTS and which will be of value to you.
Free Gapfillers Skype call
Have you booked this with me yet? You should have received emails to remind you. This call is offered to everyone who signs up to Gapfillers. It is an opportunity for you to speak to me for 20 minutes and tell me about your IELTS goal. I'd like to find out about any language challenges you are facing currently and which parts of the test you may be having problems with. If I can help you with this then I will.
If you haven't booked this yet and would like to do it then just email me with your Skype name berni.wall@language-tuition.co.uk
Once you give me your Skype name then I'll give you some times and you should choose a good time for you. After that is fixed, then make sure you are online at the time of your appointment.
This is a golden opportunity to get some practice so just email me! berni.wall@language-tuition.co.uk
Speaking Workshops
We have almost completed the second round of Speaking Workshops.
Two groups have been running and we have worked on each part of the speaking exam in some detail practising, looking at suitable language and also taking away exercises to practise alone.
I am really pleased at how enthusiastic the groups have been. Everybody is working really hard to improve their speaking and make sure they are working at bands 7 and 8.
The members of my speaking workshops have all taken action to work on their speaking and taking action is the only way to get better!
Well done all of you!!
We will be running another series later in January so watch this space!
Speaking Workshops are held on Skype and led by me. There is a maximum of 5 in a group and we focus just on the speaking test and walk through each part of the test in detail.
IELTS Speaking practice via Gapfillers
Using member home will give you the chance to message other members, receive any group messages and make useful connections here on Gapfillers.
You can also find speaking 'buddies' here for your own practise. Simply send a message from Member Home to the IELTS group network (a network message) asking for people to share Skype names with you and then you can meet on Skype and practice your English!
Hooking up with other members of this group is one great way to get extra speaking. I already know some of you are doing this and would encourage everybody to find 'speaking buddies' here on Gapfillers and improve your fluency in preparation for your IELTS exam..
You can also send individual messages in Member Home. (the whole list of members comes up, but it is in alphabetical order so you should be able to find who your are looking for. If you stay in the IELTS group network then you will see just the members of this group)
Writing Workshops
Like the Speaking Workshops these are held in small groups and take place online. We look at each task in detail and I will give you suggestions on how to construct your essays to get a band 7.
The groups are small (5 maximum) to allow for interaction and I will be checking your writing and giving you individual advice about your IELTS writing performance.
We will hold another set of Writing workshops in January - more information on this next week!
I am also working with individual students on their IELTS so if you want more information about this or the workshops or any other aspect of IELTS then just Contact me via the site or email me at berni.wall@language-tuition.co.uk
Happy New Year 2012
Let's make 2012 the yet that YOU get the IELTS result you want!
I'm really excited that you are here on Gapfillers and I want you all to have the best year ever for your IELTS, your career and your future!
Together we can achieve great things this year!
Don't forget to check The World of IELTS for any IELTS updates
Here are some top tips for the speaking test:
- Make sure you get as fluent as possible - you can only do this with practice
- Don't memorise phrases to use but do learn them - use them frequently to get them into your language
- One of the MOST IMPORTANT things in the speaking is vocabulary so do actively search for vocabulary for all the topics, get a 'topic notebook' to write them down under the relevant topic, learn them and use them so that they become natural.
That's all for this week. I hope you will find this little digest of information useful.
If you need any help with anything just send a message via Contact Us in the Gapfillers site or directly to me berni.wall@language-tuition.co.uk
Until next YEAR!
