Gapfillers News

frost on branches

November

Bonfire night, foggy days and frosts at night!

Dull November brings the blast,
Then the leaves go whirling past.

November has been a busy month at Gapfillers!

We hope you found our vocabulary weeks on the topics of election and travel interesting and useful.

We also had a Modal verb week to help with another tricky area of English grammar!

Our visit to the Language Show in London was a success too and we have new offers available for Gapfillers members:

  • a partner site, Culture-Class is offering all Gapfillers members a special discount on their membership. Find out everything you ever needed to know about life in the UK.
  • our 10-15 minutes a day will all be available to use on mobile phone from January 2009.Watch this space!!

Archives

We are working on these to make them more user-friendly and extensive. Grammar, Vocabulary, Writing and Daily News are done and we are converting the others one by one. You should be able to find everything available at the click of a mouse!

Murder Mystery

We have a team of intrepid game players who are embarking on our Murder Mystery journey at the end of November. You can follow their progress through the blog and give them encouragement by posting comments.

Self-paced learning

We now have around 300 exercises in each of our archives so there is something for everyone to choose. If you are not sure what to choose why not try the grammar test and your score will highlight the areas you could look at. Then go to the archives and you will find everything indexed according to topic.

If you have a particular interest then look out for readings and listening podcast about these areas. If you can't find what you need or want then send us a message and we'll put something together!!

Member Home

In Member home you can organise your own favourites, message other members individually or the whole network.

You can also create your own pages and send these to the various Wiki pages we have - so far; Virtual Weekends, Haiku and Recipes. We'd love to get more of your contributions and also suggestions for other topics. You could start your own!

Daily News

These have now begun to carry adverts. We cannot do anything about them and are currently looking around for an alternative short video news file. So far we have not found anything available to us that has the quality and breadth of the Reuters videos. We would love to know what you feel about them. Do you find them distracting? Irritating? or can you simply ignore them? Post a comment on the page and let us know how you feel.

Finally....

We need your help to keep developing Gapfillers. Vote for your favourite pages, make comments on pages that allow for this. This would make the learning a real two-way process and we can feel confident that we are delivering the language practice that you really need and want to see!
