Poem Puzzle

Thank you to those who contributed answers to the sound clip from the last newsletter. The answers was indeed Chaucer and the extract was from the beginning of 'Canterbury Tales'.

Events

We will be adding our new events calendar to the site this week so you can see at a glance everything that is coming up on Gapfillers.

The first event will be 'Phrasal Verb' fortnight! This begins on Monday (May 19th) and will feature phrasal verbs everyday in the grammar and word of the day. We will also have a list of phrasal verbs in the vocabulary section both weeks. As this is a very tricky area of English it is a feature not to be missed!!

Poetry

Our poetry section is filling up with new poems and we will soon feature 'old favourites' too. Starting next week we have a Haiku event. This is a poetic form from Japan. We ask you to have a go at writing a Haiku - all the instructions are there to help you.

Listening

We hope you enjoyed this week's listening from Gordon Ramsay. As well as the language practice, it will give cooking tips too! More of these in the future.

Our People in Conversation and News Bulletin archives are growing with lots of excellent listening practice.

Writing

Have you been trying out the spelling bees and dictation exercises? English spelling is something that haunts us all! These are very short and effective exercises. Don't forget that you can buy writing credits on the site to submit writing for marking by one of our language trainers.
