The auction
A man attends an animal and rare bird auction. He has his eye on a particularly pretty looking parrot he had spotted amongst the lots. He takes his seat in the auction room and prepares to bid when his lot comes up.
|
The bidding begins for the parrot, and the man is disapponted to discover two other keen bidders. Eventually, one of the other bidders stops, and the man can sense that the parrot could be his. He continues bidding.
|
Finally, the second bidder drops out, and the bird is secured. The man is suddenly aware of the huge sum he has paid for his lot. He approaches the Auctioneer to collect his parrot. "Phew", he says "that was tough bidding. I've gone way over my budget, I hope the wretched parrot can talk!".
| The tension in the auction rooms mounts, as does the price being bid for the bird. The man finds his budget exceeded, and yet he his still determined to beat the other bidder and secure the parrot.
"Well, yes, of course he can talk" replies the Auctioneer. "Who do you think was bidding against you?"
