Countable and uncountable nouns

English nouns are often described as "countable" or "uncountable".

Try this exercise to check if you can use countable and uncountable nouns correctly


Countable nouns

  • Can be singular or plural
  • Can use a / an
  • Can be used alone in the plural
  • Can use some, any, many and few in the plural

Uncountable nouns

  • Have only one form
  • Cannot be used with one, two, three etc
  • Cannot use a / an, but can use 'a ..... of'
  • Can be used alone
  • Can use some, any, much and little
