Gapfillers News
Happy New Year 2009! | The Old Yearby John Clare The Old Year's gone away |
The beginning of a new year and just the right time to dust off the old language habits and gain new ones! Where better to do this than Gapfillers!
Murder Mystery game
This concluded over the holiday and we had a result! The game was fun and people got very involved sending messages, following clues and making accusations! We hope that you were able to follow the blog and pick up some of the developments.
We plan to run the game again in March so look out for sign up details.
The Media
This is our current theme. We have words of the day, grammar, reading and listening exercises and vocabulary linked to it. Whether you work in the media or not, we hope that you will find the words useful.
Our next theme will be The Theatre beginning on February 9th - look out for some treats! You can see all the planned themes on our Events Calendar on the home page.
Daily Practice
Don't forget that you can find this short unit of practice every day in the rss feed - Gapfillers Latest! Click on the titles and this will bring up the exercises.
As a reminder this daily unit consists of word of the day, grammar exercise and news bulletin.
Language on the Go for people on the Go!
All your learning in your pocket!
Much of the site is already available on 3G phones and there is a PDA version (see top of home page).
However, we are putting this daily unit into mobile phone format so that these slogans will be achieved fully and you should be able to carry everything with you.
The mobile phone content will consist of the daily unit (see above) with a podcast rather than a news video and a few other shorter items.
We should have this ready to roll out in 2-3 weeks so watch this space!!
Other content on Gapfillers
You will find an additional longer exercise each day (these are the latest ones)

- Friday - additional Listening
Even more!
If you like literature, look at the poetry and short story section. We also have crosswords and wordsearches (this archive is beginning to expand). Finally there are jokes and whimsical stories just for fun. Look at the Fun Section.
Finally - Interactive Events
Please comment on the pages, vote for your favourites and contribute to the various Wiki topics - we really want to hear from you!!
We were so amazed at the Murder Mystery contributions that we are looking for other interactive games and activities to do on site.
Remember it's when you are using the language to do something that excites and interests you that you really develop your linguistic skills and almost without realising it!!!
