Character names
you may have noticed that these all have meanings - if not, see below.(the double meanings are based on the sounds)
D.I. Nabbem - Nab them (to nab is to catch a criminal)
Howie Solvit - how we solve it
R.T. Guy - Arty guy (someone who is artistic or looks artistic)
Rip Toft - ripped off (to rip off - to overcharge or not pay what is owed)
Tik Toft - ticked off - to be angry or annoyed
Dai Poor - die poor
La Scala - from the Opera house in Milan
Gugenheim - from the museum in New York
Tekit Orlin - take it all in - absorb information
Ivor Fortune - I've a fortune (i.e. rich)
Trudy Tate - from the Tate galleries London
Tom Wragg - rag - a newspaper
M.T. Hart - empty heart
Crime vocabulary
These words may be useful for your messages:
a sleuth - an investigator or detective
alibi - a valid reason for not committing the crime (e.g you can prove you were somewhere else)
to get away with... - to escape justice ( he got away with the robbery - he didn't get caught or prosecuted)
assault - to attack someone/an attack
fraud - deception, to gain unlawfully
break in - to enter a building without permission
a clue - something that helps find the answer to a mystery or incident
a conundrum - something you can't work out
a red herring - a clue that send you in the wrong (or an irrelevant) direction
a wild goose chase - spending time on the wrong line of enquiry (possibly as a result of a red herring)
